Georgia Camping Guide

Find Your Kind of Camping in Georgia

Georgia gives you plenty of room to make a trip your own. Explore mountain communities, coastal settings, city surroundings, and places near lakes and rivers. Then choose the RV site, cabin, tent site, or glamping stay that fits the way you want to spend your time.

Use this guide to get to know GARVC's five camping districts and explore the member campgrounds within them.

GARVC Camping Districts

Each GARVC district gives you a starting point for exploring. Use the campground's actual location to plan outings and travel times; the experiences and amenities available will vary from property to property.

  • Capital City District

Build a stay around Atlanta, nearby communities, and the chance to enjoy a campground between outings. This district is a useful starting point when city attractions, local dining, and time at camp all belong in the same trip. Choose your campground with the places you want to visit in mind, and allow for the drive between them.

  • Coastal District

Explore coastal communities, marsh scenery, and opportunities to spend time near the water. Plan around the places that interest you, then find a campground that makes a comfortable base. A coastal location can still mean a drive to the beach, so review each property's address, access, and surroundings before booking.

  • Lake & River District

Let time near the water help shape your getaway. Browse member campgrounds and look for a location that fits your plans for fishing, paddling, boating, or a relaxed afternoon outdoors. Ask about access and permitted activities at each property; not every campground in the district has an on-site waterfront setting.

  • Mountain District

Head toward North Georgia for forested scenery, mountain communities, and opportunities to spend the day outside. Choose a campground that fits your travel route and preferred outings. If you are towing or driving a larger RV, ask the property for recommended approach directions and details about your reserved site.

    Explore Mountain
  • Sunshine District

Make time for South Georgia's communities, open landscapes, and a more relaxed travel pace. Whether you are planning a dedicated getaway or extending a stop along your route, browse the member campgrounds and see what is nearby. Leave room for an unhurried meal, a local discovery, and some time simply enjoying camp.

Read a campground profile with your trip in mind

A campground profile can help you picture the stay and decide what to ask next. Look for the location, available accommodations, listed amenities, photos, and direct contact or booking information.

  1. Start with the essentials

    • Does the property offer the accommodation you need?
    • Is the location practical for your route and outings?
    • Will the space work for your group, vehicle, and any specific access needs?
  2. Separate on-site features from nearby activities

A lake, trail, or attraction nearby can be a reason to choose an area, but it may require a drive or separate admission. Check where an activity is located and who operates it.

  3. Ask about your dates and your exact accommodation

Amenities, seasonal schedules, and included supplies may differ by site or unit. Contact the campground about anything essential to your stay before you reserve.

Make the stay fit your group

  • Camping with family or friends

Compare sleeping capacity, guest limits, and gathering space. If your group needs neighboring sites or several cabins, ask the campground how those arrangements are handled.

  • Camping with pets

Confirm that pets are allowed in your selected accommodation and review the rules for shared areas. Plan outings around places where your pet can join you and the campground's rules for unattended pets.

  • Traveling with specific access needs

Ask about the exact features that matter to you. Details about entrances, paths, bathrooms, parking, and site surfaces can be more useful than a general accessibility label.

  • Staying a little longer

Talk with the campground about extended-stay availability and requirements. Compare everyday needs, including laundry, utilities, connectivity, and the surrounding area.
